Prescriptions
We will consider whether we can prescribe medications only if this aligns with what we would do for our NHS patients, to ensure patient safety.
In line with GMC (General Medical Council) guidance, prior to considering whether to prescribe medications we will need clear documentation from the consultant. This includes:
· Confirmation that they are registered with the GMC.
· The medication name, dosage, strength and duration.
· Confirmation that they have counselled you on the side effects, checked for potential interactions and advised you to contact them directly if any side effects occur.
Please note, any medication that is required urgently after your appointment will need to provided by your specialist team.
If the medication is to be continued after the initial supply, we can only issue further prescriptions once we have received written confirmation of the medication requested.
All requests will be treated as routine and the prescription will take up to 7 working days from receipt to be processed.
Important Considerations
It is important to be aware that:
· Private consultants can sometimes recommend medications that we are unable to prescribe. If this is the case, you will need to obtain the medications directly from the specialist.
· We do not engage in any shared care with any private provider for any reason, in line with national guidance and patient safety concerns. Please contact us if you wish to see our practice policy regarding this.
